Climate change is a major threat to the planet's ecosystems, and especially to the millions of small farmers in Central and Western Africa who are dependent on the land's ecosystem services and on a stable climate. We believe, however, that these small peasants are not only future victims, but that they can play a key role in the fight against global warming.

To prove this, the CocoaMasters are developing and testing production and plantation systems that considerably reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Better even, we invest in techniques which actively take CO2 out of the atmosphere and sequester it in environmentally-friendly farms.

We believe there is a bright future for “low carbon” farm products, and we are the first to step into this future. Low carbon cocoa will fetch a premium price on the market, and it is the small farmer who controls this premium, as it is he who manages the climate-friendly production system itself.
